There are several examples known of form TC-TO-1C. Most have interesting messages which comment on life as she was around Green Ponds/Brighton/Oatlands.

 

The first two telegrams show the use of horse-drawn drays and carts to convey people and goods.
Most would offer a sevice across a regular route and would be called on to add to their load for that day.

Telegram sent from Oatlands (probably) to Drayton.
19 October 1871.

Message reads:

Coming tomorrow by Mrs. Shelverton's trap - Will you meet us at Bagley's Hotel.

Cost: 1/4 for 14 words.

Telegram sent from Green Ponds to Elizabeth Street(?).
23 September 1871.

Message reads:

Send cask loose powder by Mills tonight without fail.

Cost: 1/- for 9 words.

Arrangements could be made with the Guard of the coach to collect and bring up commodities which were desperately required.
Telegram sent from Greenponds Greenponds (W. Harvey) and addressed to:

Joseph Duckworth,
Guard
Greenponds Coach,
Hobarton.
2 October 1871.

Message reads:

Please bring a case of Gin up tonight.

Cost: 1/- for 8 words.
(probably worth every penny!!)

Telegram sent from Greenponds Greenponds (W. Harvey) to Hobarton (Joseph Duckwoorth, Guard Greenponds Coach, Hobarton).
27 October 1871.

Message reads:

Please bring a case of Gin up tonight.

Cost: 1/- for 8 words.

An inter-colonial telegram sent to Melbourne, Victoria. Rare to see them.

Telegram sent from Greenponds to Melbourne.
24 October 1871.

Message reads:

Father arranged yesterday for your passage per Steamer. Telegraph arrival.
